Recently, the 2022 Yili State-level Key Research [and] Technology Development Project (Conventional Project) jointly applied [by] the Delta Water Institute, Yili Normal University, Yining Lianchuang Urban Construction (Group) Co., Ltd. has been approved which the project is titled 'Research on Overflow Pollution Control Technology of Combined Sewer Systems Coupled with Storm Warning [and] Forecasting'.

The drainage system of Yining City mainly adopts the combined sewer system, which often experiences overflow, resulting in serious pollution issues. This project will integrate the requirements [and] construction needs of the Sponge City construction proposed [by] the Ministry of Housing [and] Urban-Rural Development, according to the rainfall characteristics of the region, focus on the prominent problem of overflow pollution in the combined sewer system. The research aims to improve the quality [and] efficiency of sewage treatment [and] control overflow pollution in Yining City. It will propose solutions [and] methods for improving the entire overflow pollution process. Yili Normal University is the lead institution for this project, with a research period of 5 years.
